Revision notices.
One email when Purdue University Global's IRB process changes — a form, a portal, a training requirement, a handbook section — as we observe it in the files we read every week. Purdue Global, the online university for working adults; not Purdue University in West Lafayette, whose process we do not follow and will not write about. No marketing blasts. Nothing else.
Add your email to the revision list
When a drawing changes, the people working from it should hear first. That is what this list is for: when Purdue Global's application form changes, when the portal moves, when a training requirement or a handbook section is revised, we send one email saying what changed and what it means for a file in progress — drawn from what we see in the files we read, and always deferring to the university's current handbook or IRB portal as the source of record.
Your address is used for the notices and for nothing else; it is not added to any other list and is not shared. To leave, reply to any notice with the word unsubscribe, or write to hello@purdueirb.com. The privacy sheet describes the rest.
What a notice says
Each notice is short and has the same four parts: what changed, where we saw it, what it means for a file already drawn — whether a document must be redrawn, whether an amendment is needed, whether a training certificate must be renewed — and where in the university's handbook or portal to confirm it. It never asks you to buy anything. If a change affects a file we are carrying for you, you hear about it directly from the drafting room, not from the list.
The things most likely to generate a notice are the ones the questions sheet already covers: the form and its sections, the training modules the handbook names, the consent template, the site-letter expectations, the amendment and continuing-review forms.
The archive
The longer sheets the notices point to — one question about Purdue Global's IRB process, worked through from the application form to the board's reply — filed here newest first, always deferring to the university's current handbook or IRB portal as the source of record.
- Purdue Global IRB or Purdue University's? Which board reviews your study, and why it matters
A Purdue Global study is reviewed by the Purdue Global IRB and not by the board at Purdue University in West Lafayette, and because the two publish similar-looking worksheets under different numbers through entirely different submission systems, guidance borrowed from the wrong institution reads as a drafting error inside your file.
2026-08-23 - Purdue Global IRB and an employer's or hospital's board: when you need both, and which goes first
Whether an employer's or hospital's board also has to review a Purdue Global study turns on engagement, not on courtesy; Purdue Global carries a worksheet for that determination, a letter template for sites that are not engaged, and a reliance agreement and supplement protocol for those that are.
2026-08-23 - How long does Purdue Global IRB approval take? Read in gates and passes, not days
Nobody can honestly put a figure on Purdue Global IRB approval before the file is read, but the sequence is fully describable: the gates the application clears before a reviewer sees it, the routing it follows afterwards, and the rule that every return costs another pass.
2026-08-23 - Surveying employees or coworkers for a Purdue Global study: consent, coercion and anonymity
Surveying the people you work beside is reviewable at Purdue Global, and the board's own criteria worksheet is unusually direct about it: convenience samples are generally not allowed and nobody with authority over someone's employment may ask them to take part.
2026-08-23 - The site permission letter for a Purdue Global study: who signs it, what it must name, why it stalls files
Purdue Global's IRB calls the site permission letter agency approval and requires it in writing, on letterhead, signed by an official and sent from an agency email address rather than a personal account; it stalls files because the signature belongs to someone outside the study.
2026-08-23 - Writing a revision response the Purdue Global IRB accepts on the next pass
A revision response the Purdue Global board accepts answers every finding in the board's own order, states the change in plain words, names every document the change now lives in, and travels with stamped versions of each file it touched.
2026-08-23 - Recruitment materials in a Purdue Global application: flyers, emails and scripts, exactly as they will run
Purdue Global requires a subject recruitment plan with the recruitment materials attached, and the board reads those materials as the first thing a prospective participant will ever learn about the study — so they are submitted as finished pieces, not as descriptions of pieces you intend to write.
2026-08-23 - Purdue Global IRB approval, step by step: the sequence before any data is collected
Purdue Global's IRB publishes a five-step sequence whose first step is not a form but a pathway decision, and because the pathway selects the worksheet, the protocol form and the participant document, getting it wrong means redrawing the file rather than correcting a line.
2026-08-23 - Researching your own workplace for a Purdue Global study: dual roles, coercion and the board's questions
Purdue Global's reviewers treat a workplace study as a recruitment problem before a design problem: convenience samples are generally not allowed, employees may never be approached by anyone with authority over their employment, and the dual role must be answered in the file rather than assumed away.
2026-08-23 - Changing an approved Purdue Global study: modifications, amendments and what must wait for approval
Almost every change to an approved Purdue Global study must be reviewed and approved before it is implemented; the narrow exceptions still require updated documents, and a change large enough to alter the research questions is a new study rather than an amendment.
2026-08-23 - Interviews and focus groups in a Purdue Global application: guides, recording, consent, confidentiality
A qualitative Purdue Global study is reviewed through its documents, so the interview guide, the recording plan, the transcription arrangement and the confidentiality wording must agree with one another and with the protocol before the board reads any of them.
2026-08-23 - Secondary data and existing records in a Purdue Global study: when it is human-subjects research
A Purdue Global project built on records somebody else already gathered is human-subjects research whenever the investigator can put a name to a row; identifiability, not novelty, settles it, and Purdue Global's own procedures say the applicant may not settle it alone.
2026-08-23 - Exempt, expedited or full board at Purdue Global: which review path your study is on
Purdue Global publishes three selectable submission pathways and the convened board is not among them, because full review is not something a researcher elects but somewhere a study is sent when its design will not sit inside the exempt or expedited criteria the board publishes in advance.
2026-08-23 - The data security plan in a Purdue Global application: storage, access, de-identification, destruction
Purdue Global folds the data security plan into the methodology section of the research plan summary as seven direct questions about collection, administration, storage, access, retention, identifiability and survey tools, and each is answered with a specific name rather than a reassuring adjective.
2026-08-23 - Continuing review and closing a Purdue Global study: what the board expects after approval
Approval opens a period of obligations rather than ending them: some studies face continuing review, all face reporting duties, and closure is a filed change of status that starts a records-retention clock and leaves confidentiality promises standing.
2026-08-23 - Purdue Global IRB consent requirements: required elements, reading level, and version-matching
A Purdue Global consent document is built on the university's own template and the federal elements of 45 CFR 46.116 — key information first, understandable language, no exculpatory wording — and it is returned most often not for what it says but for saying something the rest of the file does not say.
2026-08-23 - Purdue Global IRB returned your application: what the letter means and exactly what to do next
A returned Purdue Global IRB application is a request for information, not a refusal: read the letter as a list of findings, answer each one on the record, correct the drawing in every document the finding touches, and resubmit through the university's portal.
2026-08-23 - The Purdue Global IRB application checklist: every document drawn to the same dimensions
A complete Purdue Global IRB packet is a research plan, recruitment materials, written site permission, a participant-facing document, a training certificate and the protocol form for the pathway, and the returns come less from missing pieces than from pieces that describe the same study in incompatible terms.
2026-08-23 - Does a Purdue Global doctoral project need IRB approval? QI, determinations and the honest claim
Purdue Global's own program catalogs make IRB training and IRB approval a condition of doctoral project data collection, and whether the project is research or quality improvement is decided by the design you actually drew rather than by the label you would prefer, which is why the Human Research Determination pathway exists and produces a letter.
2026-08-23 - CITI training for Purdue Global IRB: which modules, how current, and what a lapsed certificate costs
Purdue Global accepts any one of three human-research training routes and names the CITI Basic Course in Social, Humanistic and Behavioral Research as the first — while stating plainly that a refresher course, a responsible-conduct course, or any other CITI course will not be accepted in its place.
